The Gifts of Christmas

This Week We’re Reading:

Throughout Scripture, God promised that He would send the Messiah to save His people. Throughout history, we see how God has continually been faithful to keep His promises. This week, we are reading Matthew 2:1-12 together as a church family.

This Week We’re Asking:

Once the wisemen finally made it to Bethlehem and saw Jesus for the first time, they were overcome with joy and worshiped Him because they understood how important Jesus was. Here are some questions for your family as we talk about Christmas this week!

  1. What do you think the word “Worship” means?

  2. Why do you think the wisemen gave gifts to Jesus?

  3. What is one way you can worship Jesus this Christmas?

“When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.”

— Matthew 2:10-11

This Week We’re Doing:

Giving and receiving gifts at Christmas with our families is such a great time! We make our Christmas wish lists and we wait in anticipation until we are finally able to open the presents under the tree! Sometimes when we think of Christmas, that is what comes to mind first! This Christmas, instead of just hoping to get the present we have been wishing for, make sure to remember the reason why we give gifts this time of year. We give gifts to others because it helps us remember that God gave us the VERY BEST gift in Jesus. So this Christmas, even if you didn’t get that present you were hoping for, remember that God loves you SOO much that He has already given you the best gift!

Heres the challenge!

This week is going to be crazy! Some of us will be seeing different family members, traveling, eating meals with lots of people and of course, opening presents! In the midst of this crazy week, our challenge is to find 30 minutes to silence all of the noise that this week brings and spend time worshiping Jesus as a family. This might look different for each family. Maybe your family will play some worship music and sing to God. Maybe your family will take some time to share all the amazing things that God has done. Regardless of what it looks like, we know this will be a powerful moment as we worship the coming of our Savior together.

This Week We’re Memorizing:

“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Romans 15:13 NLT
