Sitting with the Christ
This Week We’re Reading:
We are so glad you are joining us as we read through multiple parables that Jesus shared throughout this series! This week we are reading Matthew 13:1-23. Click the button below to go straight there!
“Jesus used many similar stories and illustrations to teach the people as much as they could understand.”
Mark 4:33 NLT
This Week We’re Asking:
Many times we read the parables of Jesus and we kind of skim through them because we have heard them many times before. We know that God’s Word is alive and powerful so it is our goal to re-engage with these parables and allow God’s Word to show us how the Kingdom of God intersects with our daily lives. Here are a few questions you can ask as a family to start a great conversation!
Share a parable of Jesus that you remember the most!
What do you think Hebrews 4:12 means when it says that God’s Word is alive and powerful?
Why do you think it is important to read God’s Word and learn Jesus’ teaching?
This Week We’re Watching:

This Week We’re Doing:
It is incredibly important that our faith is rooted in God’s Word. As we begin this series, we want to refocus on the significance of reading the Bible as a family. This week our family challenge is to simply read God’s Word aloud as a family. This is such a simple, yet rewarding challenge. It will be amazing to hear your kids read Scripture aloud as they begin to process what God’s Word says. Block some time off on your family calendar to sit down as a family and intentionally read God’s Word together. Start by reading the parable of the Farmer scattering seed in Matthew 13:1-23. Give your kids a safe space to read out loud and ask questions that come to their minds as they read the Scripture.
This Week We’re Memorizing:
“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.”
Hebrews 4:12-13 NLT
As we make our way through this series, we are going to be focused on memorizing and learning this passage! Take some time to write this passage out as a family and put it in a place that you can reference it each day!
BONUS!
Jesus was a master storyteller, and many of his most well-known teachings were told as parables. But these stories were designed to do much more than simply "teach." Jesus said the parables were designed to both reveal and conceal his message about the arrival of God's Kingdom. In this video, we explore the main themes in Jesus' parables and ask why he used them as the primary vehicle for his message. Check it out right here!
