“The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field.”

Matthew 13:44 NLT

This Week We’re Asking:

Our lives have so many distractions in them. We have work, projects, school, friends, events, and the list goes on. Each day, it is easy to wake up and have our whole day planned out with little down time. Everything seems to move so fast! During this series, our goal is to find some time to intentionally sit with Christ. To talk to Christ. As we do this, we will be filled with awe for Him and see just how worthy of our praise He really is. Here are some discussion questions for our reading this week!

  1. If you discovered a treasure in your backyard, what would you do with it?

  2. What do you think it means to sit with Christ?

  3. Jesus says, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered in a field.” What do you think that means?

This Week We’re Watching:

Meditation is one of two keys to joy and happiness, but it just might not be what you think. Click the image about to hear about how to get started on the road to a happy and joyful life today!

“I will exalt you, my God and King, and praise your name forever and ever. I will praise you every day; yes, I will praise you forever. Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! No one can measure his greatness. Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power. I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and your wonderful miracles. Your awe-inspiring deeds will be on every tongue; I will proclaim your greatness.”

Psalm 145:1-6

This Week We’re Doing:

As we read this parable together this week, we see that the Kingdom of God is like a treasure. When we find a treasure and know it’s value, we step back and stand in awe of it. As we begin to understand how amazing the Kingdom of Heaven is, we cannot help but glorify God for inviting us into His Kingdom! God is worthy of all of our praise! Here is our family challenge for this week! Each morning, read Psalm 145:1-21 with your family. Its 21 verse, but they are very short! Use this as a reminder of how God has invited you into His Kingdom and how He is worthy of our praise throughout the day. Click the “Read Now” button below to go directly there!

This Week We’re Memorizing:

“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.”

Hebrews 4:12-13 NLT

Throughout this series, take a few moments to help your family remember this verse. We believe that God will shape and mold our hearts as we empower our family to memorize His Word.

BONUS!

Jesus was a master storyteller, and many of his most well-known teachings were told as parables. But these stories were designed to do much more than simply "teach." Jesus said the parables were designed to both reveal and conceal his message about the arrival of God's Kingdom. In this video, we explore the main themes in Jesus' parables and ask why he used them as the primary vehicle for his message. Check it out right here!
