This Week We’re Asking:

In Luke 15:1-10, Jesus shares two similar stories. In both stories, there is something that is lost. The first story is about a sheep that has wondered off, and the other is a coin that has been lost. While these two stories start differently, they both have similar endings. Each story ends with great joy as the shepherd finds the sheep and the woman finds the coin. Here are a few questions that will help start conversations about the parable!

  1. Why do you think the shepherd celebrated once he found his lost sheep?

  2. This passage talks about about “Joy”. What do you think the word “Joy” means?

  3. How do you think you and I relate to the lost sheep and the lost coin?

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 15:13

This Week We’re Doing:

This story is one of the most popular parables that Jesus ever shared. Jesus uses this opportunity to share with His followers how Heaven responds when someone who was lost turns to God. Jesus then invites us to celebrate with Him! As your family walks through this passage this week, here is a great experience that you can share together!

Heres the challenge!

Plan a family puzzle night where everyone can help put the puzzle together. Before everyone gets together, take one of the pieces of the puzzle out and hide it somewhere in the house. Once you are all together, spend some time to put the puzzle together. When everyone realizes you are missing a piece, have everyone start looking for it.  As you gather back together talk about how that one piece that was missing is super important and how each one of us is super important to God!

This Week We’re Memorizing:

“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.”

Hebrews 4:12-13 NLT

BONUS!

Jesus was a master storyteller, and many of his most well-known teachings were told as parables. But these stories were designed to do much more than simply "teach." Jesus said the parables were designed to both reveal and conceal his message about the arrival of God's Kingdom. In this video, we explore the main themes in Jesus' parables and ask why he used them as the primary vehicle for his message. Check it out right here!
