Substance is Not Negotiable
This Week We’re Reading:
This week, we are reading Colossians 2:6-10 together as a church family. This passage challenges us to build our lives in Christ and continually grow in relationship with Him.
This Week We’re Asking:
In life, there are many things that we negotiate on. We can meet in the middle on all kinds of things! Sometimes we feel more strongly about things than others and that is ok! But, in our faith, there are some things that we refuse to negotiate on because they are so incredibly important as we build our lives in Christ.
What are some things that you negotiate?
What do you think is something that you will not negotiate when it comes to your faith in Christ?
Why do you think it is important to know what you will stand firm on?
“But we refused to give in to them for a single moment. We wanted to preserve the truth of the gospel message for you.”
— Galatians 2:5
This Week We’re Doing:
Each day, we are confronted and forced to choose between what we will negotiate on and what we will stand firmly on. It doesn’t always seem like a big deal in the moment, but the decisions we make reveal what is negotiable and what is not negotiable in our lives. Many times it is a seemingly small decision that we easily negotiate, but in reality those compromises shape what we truly believe.
Sometimes we care too much about what people think so we act or live in contrast to what we believe just so we can fit in. It can be very difficult at times because everyone wants to be liked and everyone wants to fit in. But, when we find ourselves in those moments and we are thinking about negotiating what we truly believe because of how others will see us, let’s take a moment to ask God how He will use that opportunity to help us share His love and light instead of compromising what we know is truth.
This Week We’re Memorizing:
Matthew 11:28-29
Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.
