This Week We’re Asking:

The parable that Jesus shares about the persistent widow is an incredible story that speaks a lot about who God is and who we are. Throughout this parable, we see a widow pleading her case to no avail. Finally, after her constant plea, the judge decides to grant her justice. Here are a few questions to help lead a conversation as you read this passage.

  1. What do you think the job of a judge is?

  2. Why do you think the widow kept going to the judge and didn’t quit asking for justice?

  3. What is the difference between the judge in the story and God as our judge?

  4. Why do you think it is important to keep praying even if you don’t feel like your prayers are being answered?

This Week We’re Doing:

The parable of the persistent widow shows us the importance of creating a lifestyle of continual prayer. It is essential that we place our faith in Christ as we bring our needs to him. This week we have a simple, yet powerful challenge that will help us keep prayer the main focus in our daily life.

Heres the challenge!

Find a small pail or bucket and grab some large popsicle sticks or cut a few strips of paper. As a family, write one prayer request on each popsicle stick. Feel free to write as many prayer requests as you would like. Once you have written your prayer request on the popsicle stick, place it into the pail. Each day, find a time to pull out the popsicle sticks as a family and pray each prayer together. It will be incredible to participate in prayer with your family and to see how God works in each situation.

This Week We’re Memorizing:

“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.”

Hebrews 4:12-13 NLT

BONUS!

Jesus was a master storyteller, and many of his most well-known teachings were told as parables. But these stories were designed to do much more than simply "teach." Jesus said the parables were designed to both reveal and conceal his message about the arrival of God's Kingdom. In this video, we explore the main themes in Jesus' parables and ask why he used them as the primary vehicle for his message. Check it out right here!
